Bachata

Bachata is a social dance in a genre of Latin American music that originated in the Dominican Republic in the first half of the 20th century. Bachata originates from bolero and son (and later, from the mid-1980s, merengue) and has taken the salsa club dance scene by storm! The basics of bachata are relatively simple to learn, making it a fun dance for beginners. Bachata features a grounded leg action, smooth hip motions, and a signature “tap” accented on the fourth beat of a measure either with the hip or the foot. If you like salsa dancing, you'll need to learn bachata too! At Allegro, we have many classes and dances that feature Bachata.
